SSI-I ENGAGEMENTS

February 2017:

  • Presented at International Spices Conference 2017 in Trivandrum, Kerala, organized by All India Spices Exporters Forum, to engage with spices companies working in sustainability sector.
  • Conducted field extension workers’ training at National Research Center of Seed Spices, Ajmer (NRCSS) in collaboration with ICAR.

March 2017

SSI-I Members Quarterly Meeting to discuss the action plan for SSI-I and review the work done by the organization.


April 2017:

SSI-I engaged with IFAD to explore opportunities for sustainable spices production in the North East.

May 2017:

Engaged with ICAR to develop Package of Practice (PoP) for sustainable production of cumin, chili, coriander and turmeric farming and requested IISR to review and validate.

June 2017:

  • Meeting with the Spice Board of India to discuss opportunities for sustainable practices in Cardamom.
  • Meeting with Department of Horticulture, Karnataka government for PPP-IHD and FPO to explore public private partnership with the Government of Karnataka.
  • Meetings with leading spices organizations including Olam International, Kancor Ingredients, Jayanti Herbs & Spices, Nestle India, Nedspices Pvt. Ltd., Nani Agro, Plant Lipid, Akay Flavors, Eastern, Griffith Foods, MTR, ITC Limited, to discuss their participation in the multi-stakeholder platform.

July 2017:

  • Engaged with the Agricultural Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand for exploring sustainable intervention opportunities in the agriculture sector in Uttarakhand.
  • Attended MoU Signing event between 2030WRG and Karnataka State government, where SSI-I presented to explore opportunities in spices in North Karnataka.

August-October 2017:

Monitoring and evaluation of the project regions by program officials.


November 2017:

  • Participated in a roundtable discussion organized by the Government of Nagaland and IFAD to promote Sustainable Spices in North Eastern Region in the State
  • Meeting with Department of Horticulture, Karnataka government for PPP-IHD and FPO to explore public private partnership with the Government of Karnataka.
  • Visited ZBNF program area, being implemented by RySS, in Andhra Pradesh.

STAC started the project to train turmeric farmers for the season.

PRDIS started the project to train chili farmers for the season.

SSI-I conducted the quarterly members’ meeting to discuss the future roadmap.

SSI-I conducted a Gap Study to identify existing gaps between Zero-Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) and SSI-I principles.
